• Look under the leaves and on young shoots, and watch for ants too.

What to do

• For a light attack, squash or rinse off the colonies you can reach.
• Protect helpful insects such as ladybirds and hoverfly larvae.

Prevent

• Avoid excess nitrogen fertiliser, which encourages very soft shoots.
