Brown rot possible
The browning and the pads on the fruit are consistent with a rot that spreads mainly through wounds and damp conditions.
How to recognise
- Look for pads arranged in circles and mummified fruit left hanging in the tree.
- Check whether flowers or shoot tips have also dried out.
What to do
- Remove rotten and mummified fruit, both in the tree and on the ground.
- Avoid wetting the leaves and fruit when watering.
Prevent
- Open up the crown moderately and remove sources of infection.
- Avoid wounding the fruit and keep watch after rainy periods.
