Brown rot possible

The browning and the pads on the fruit are consistent with a rot that spreads mainly through wounds and damp conditions.

How to recognise

• Look for pads arranged in circles and mummified fruit left hanging in the tree.
• Check whether flowers or shoot tips have also dried out.

What to do

• Remove rotten and mummified fruit, both in the tree and on the ground.
• Avoid wetting the leaves and fruit when watering.

Prevent

• Open up the crown moderately and remove sources of infection.
• Avoid wounding the fruit and keep watch after rainy periods.
