Plum rust

A common summer fungus: yellow spots on top, orange pustules underneath, early leaf fall.

How to recognise

• Turn spotted leaves over: rust forms powdery orange-to-brown pustules underneath.
• Check whether the most affected leaves drop early.

What to do

• Collect and dispose of fallen leaves (not in the compost).
• Water at the base without wetting the foliage.

Prevent

• A well-aired tree dries faster and resists better.
